A Legacy of Art and Harmony

Our gallery traces its origins to the quiet but resolute vision of our late father, Ang Tock Kiong 洪笃恭 (1936-2021). A devoted student of renowned masters Chen Wen Xi 陈文希 (1906-1991) and Cheong Soo Pieng 鐘泗賓 (1917-1983), Ang was also among the early members of the Equator Art Society in Singapore. Together with fellow collector Tan Teo Kwang, Ang cultivated a respected circle of artists and collectors, including Chen Wen Xi, Chen Chong Swee 陈宗瑞 (1910-1985), and renowned collectors Chen Zhi ‘chu 陈之初 (1909-1972) and Yang Ji’lin 楊啓霖 (1917-1998), dedicated to preserving Chinese art appreciation in Singapore.

Founded in honour of our great-grandfather Ang Hock Kua 洪福看 (1878-1957), who established the original Chang He Company in early 1900s Singapore, the gallery inherits the spirit of “perpetual harmony” (長龢). Today, it provides appraisals, valuations, and private consultations, and is trusted by major institutions and auction houses. Notable works from the collection by Ding Fu’zhi 丁辅之 and Yu Fei’an 于非闇 have achieved historic auction records at Christie’s and Sotheby’s.

The gallery is now led by Ang Tock Kiong’s sons:

    • Ang Chiat 洪捷: PhD in Chinese Art Appreciation (China Academy of Art), MA from Savannah College of Art and Design, lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and guest lecturer in Beijing and Wuhan.
    • Ang Ping 洪平: MBA, University of Chicago; specialist in Late Qing to Modern Chinese Art; art critic and writer with studies at Rhode Island School of Design.

Together, they continue the family’s passion and commitment in nurturing artistic integrity, fostering dialogue, and preserving authentic cultural memory in the thriving spirit of Chinese art.
